Which Questions worked well for you?

It is only by asking the right questions that we begin to uncover the richness of each person’s journey. Aunt Helen and Uncle Joe might think that their life is not interesting. But the truth is, everybody’s life is unique and of value. Everybody has experienced happiness, sadness, anger, and joy. And for sure, there is a story to go along with all of these feelings.

I visited a great aunt some years ago with my mother. I had never met her before this visit. At the time, I asked many questions concerning her growing up in pioneer Minnesota. She seemed delighted to answer them. Later that day, she said, “Nobody has ever asked me those questions.” And her eyes filled up with tears. I know I went home impressed with this strong lady, and I know she felt happy, too.
